Mechanism Of Action Of Ethinylestradiol-Cyproterone Tablets

  • It combines two medicines, Ethinylestradiol which is an estrogen, and Cyproterone acetate an antiandrogen. They are both hormones. Androgens stimulate hair growth and the grease glands in your skin. Blocking their effect reduces oil production, acne and hair growth.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Climen 21 Tablets

  • Ethinylestradiol / Cyproterone is used to treat acne, very oily skin and excessive hair growth in women (hirsutism).
  • It is only used when other treatments have failed. It also has contraceptive effects, which means that it prevents pregnancy

 

Method Of Administration Of Climen Tablets

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose is:
  • Tablets must be taken every day at about the same time so that the interval between two tablets always is 24 hours.
  • Take it every day for 21 days.
  • It comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a day of the week.
  • Take one pill each day, until you have finished all 21 pills.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Climen Tablets

  • Side effect
  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  •  Nausea.
  •  Vomiting.
  • Headache.
  • Bloating.
  • breast tenderness.
  • swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or weight change may occur.
  • Vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods may occur, especially during the first few months of use
  • mood changes
  • decreased mood
  • decreased sexual drive (libido)

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Climen Tablets

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

 

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Climen Tablets

  • Talk to your doctor before taking it, you should also tell your doctor:
  • If you have elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia) or a positive family history for this condition
  • If you have diabetes
  • If you have just given birth you are at an increased risk of blood clots
  • If you have an inflammation in the veins under the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis)
  • If you have varicose veins
  • If you have epilepsy
  • If you have systemic lupus erythematosus
  • If you have hemolytic uremic syndrome
  • If a close relative has or has ever had breast cancer
  • If you have sickle cell anemia
  • If you have a disease of the liver or the gallbladder
  • If you have depression
  • If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease)
  • If you have eye problems.
  • If you have a surgery soon.

 

Storage Conditions Of Climen Tablets

  • Store below 25°c
  • Don’t refrigerate
  • Used patches still contain some active hormones. To protect the environment, the patches should be disposed of with care.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
